BSA: The sixth annual BSA-IDC study of software piracy around the world:
In 2008, the rate of PC software piracy dropped in about half (52 percent) of the 110 countries studied
and remained the same in about a third (35 percent).
However, the worldwide piracy rate went up from 38 percent in 2007 to 41 percent in 2008. The global
rate rose for the second year in a row because PC shipments grew fastest in high-piracy rate countries.

New CompactFlash card protects software, machine level production data
and plant manufacturing systems against theft
Karlsruhe - Starting in January 2008, Wibu-Systems AG, in
conjunction with three other German companies and a research
institute cooperated in the "Pro-Protect" project. The goal of the
project was to investigate effective methods for protecting fabrication
machinery against illegal duplication, product piracy and industrial
spying. The focus was in protecting embedded software; because
today nearly all production machines are running with programmed
functionality.

Karlsruhe - Public health care and especially mobile home nursing care have to meet particular requirements: first, only those
authorized should be allowed to access personal medical data. Also, the information exchanged between all parties (doctors, hospitals,
care centers, and healthcare workers) has to be secure and efficient.
